10/12/2007 - Foster Carer Long Service Awards and Christmas Lunch - Tuesday 11 December

A Christmas lunch and Long Service Awards ceremony for foster carers in Allerdale and Copeland takes place tomorrow lunchtime (Tuesday 11 December).

The lunch is being held at the La Rue restaurant at the Lakes College, in Workington.

The long service awards will be presented to carers who have achieved 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years' service - but all carers have been invited as the meal is also a thank you for all their hard work and commitment to fostering in the county.

As well as foster carers, staff from the county council's Foster Work Service will be on hand, and County Councillor Duncan Fairbairn will be presenting the awards.

The lunch is for carers only, but anyone getting an award on the day will also be given a voucher for each of their own birth children. These are called 'children who foster', and they have a crucial role to play as well. This small token acknowledges their contribution to successful fostering.

The lunch takes place between 12 noon and 2pm.
