8/2/2007 - Millom mobility boost

A package of highways measures designed to ease mobility problems for people in Millom, has been agreed by Cumbria County Council's local committee for Copeland

The improvements, which will cost around £20,000, will see drop-kerbs and wheelchair friendly footway drains installed on parts of Duke Street, St George's Road, Lapstone Road, Salthouse Road and Lancashire Road.

More drop kerbs will also be installed on the town's Devonshire Road.

The work, which will start before April, is expected to last several weeks and will also see special dimpled paving installed at several crossing points in the town centre to help blind and partially sighted people.

Councillor Ronnie Calvin, Chairman of Copeland Committee, said: "This investment is designed to make it more easy for people with disabilities to navigate their way around Millom."
