28/2/2007 - I'm a celebrity book, borrow me out of here

Cumbrians' fondness for celebrity literature has been revealed in a new list of the county's most-borrowed library books.

According to statistics published by Cumbria County Council's Library Service, super-celebrity entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson's motivational book 'Screw it, let's do It' tops the list of the most read non-fiction titles during the last year.

Other celebrity books in the county's top ten non-fiction reads include, 'The other side of nowhere', by former Eastender's star Danniella Westbrook, and X-Factor judge Sharon Osbourne's autobiography 'Extreme'.

Topping Cumbria's top ten fiction choices is the adventure novel 'Labyrinth', by Kate Mosse, closely followed by James Patterson's medical thriller 'The 5th horseman'.

Books by Joanna Trollope, Ruth Rendell and Roald Dahl also feature in the top ten list.

Councillor Roger Bingham, cabinet member responsible for the county's Library Service, said: "These statistics provide a fascinating glimpse into the county's reading habits as well as demonstrating the shear breadth of titles available to borrow in Cumbria's libraries."
