4/1/2007 - Family Reading Fortnight comes to Eden

Family Reading Fortnight starts next week (8-20 January) and to mark the event, Eden libraries are laying on a host of fun-packed events.

Whether its attending a special story session or joining a reading group, there's plenty on offer for mums, dads and carers looking to entertain children of all ages.

On Tuesday 9 January, families with pre-school children can enjoy a special half-hour Storytime session at Penrith Library which gets underway at 10:30am.

On Tuesday 16 January, Penrith Library will be bouncing with 30 minutes of fun from 10:30am as children aged three-years and under join mums, dads and carers for a musical Baby Bounce & Rhyme event designed to help little ones develop their listening and social skills.

Children aged eight-years to early-teens are invited to join Penrith Library's BookBusters reading group from 4:30pm to 5:30pm on the same day (16 January). Here they will get the chance to explore books to share with their families and be introduced to the group's next joint read, the classic children's book Charlotte's Web.

Alston Library will round off events on Wednesday 17 January with an opportunity for Children aged seven to twelve years to attend the next meeting of the Chatterbooks reading group from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. As well as the chance to hear about books to share with family members at home, children will also be able to talk about books they may have read over the Christmas holidays.

Throughout Family Reading Fortnight, Penrith Library will also be displaying information on the "It Takes Five Minutes" promotion. The promotion, which is supported by the BBC RaW (reading and writing) campaign and the Reading Agency, highlights books which dads can enjoy reading with their children or by themsleves.

For more information on these and other events taking place in local libraries during Family Reading Fortnight, people can log on to Cumbria County Council's Library Service website at www.cumbria.gov.uk/libraries
