The Conservative Party has retained the Brampton and Gilsland seat in yesterday's Cumbria County Council by-election.
The by-election, which was won by Lawrence Fisher, was held following the resignation in November of county councillor Philip Howard.
The results of yesterday's by-election were:
Conservative - Lawrence Neil Fisher 717
Labour - Alex Wallace Faulds 363
BNP - David Fraser 88
Turnout was 23.3 per cent. The political makeup of the council remains unchanged.
