29/1/2007 - Charity drive takes on a new spin

Businesses and other organisations in Cumbria are being invited to dig deep into their pockets for charity in return for free advice on how to make a splash in the world of publicity.

Cumbria County Council's News Manager Gareth Cosslett is offering free tips on how to write a press release and target audiences through the media in return for a charity donation. The expert advice will go to whoever makes the highest donation to the County Council's Chairman's Charity (all proceeds go to the Alzheimer's Society and the Great North Air Ambulance) by lunchtime on Friday February 2nd.

"People charge thousands of pounds for PR consultancy and media training... I'm willing to offer my services to the highest charity bidder. January is a time when businesses are looking to ensure their budgets are balanced for the year, so why not put a few quid extra under 'consultancy' for this year and at the same time make a donation to two very worth causes?" said News Manager Gareth Cosslett, who worked as a journalist for 12 years, most recently at Sky News, before making the switch into media relations.

Any businesses wishing to make a bid should contact Gareth Cosslett by February 2nd on 01228 606332 or email gareth.cosslett@cumbriacc.gov.uk
