A Brampton schoolgirl is set to make her mark on library users across Cumbria after winning a Cumbria County Council competition to design a new library card.

Photographers are invited to Carlisle library on Friday 13 July at 2:00pm where 14-year old Chloe Halstead will be showing off her winning design and receiving a £25 gift token from award-winning television and radio scriptwriter Jim Eldridge - the creator and writer of Radio 4's long-running 'King Street Junior' and CBBC's Sci-fi drama 'Powers'.

Chloe's design of an environmentally conscious family of penguins on their way to the library will be shown on 15,000 new library cards which will be entering circulation across the county on the same day.

The competition for card carrying creators aged 19 and under was launched by the county council in December, last year. Dozens of designs were submitted by budding young artists from across Cumbria.

The difficult job of choosing a winner fell to a judging panel made up of Carlisle's resident TV soap star Roxanne Pallet, Copeland MP Jamie Reed, Cleator Moor's Junior Eurovision Song Contest sensation Tom Morley and councillor Roger Bingham, county council cabinet member responsible for Library Service in Cumbria.

Councillor Roger Bingham, said: "It was very difficult to pick a winner from all the excellent designs we received but in the end, Chloe's picture was just that little bit special.

"As well as being bright and fun, we think the design's focus on the environment will prove a big hit with library users of all ages."
