Cumbria County Council's cabinet has today thrown a cash lifeline to Copeland Citizens Advice Bureau.
The advice bureau, which last year handed over 18,000 enquiries from the public, has been experiencing severe financial difficulties.
At their meeting in Kendal today, councillors earmarked £10,000 in emergency funding to supplement £15,000 which the county council's Local Committee for Copeland have already said they will make available to the service.
An additional £21,000 is also being provided by the South Whitehaven Partnership, backed by Copeland Borough Council.
The Copeland Citizens' Advice Bureau operates from two main offices in Whitehaven and Millom, and delivers outreach services in a range of different locations including Mirehouse, Cleator Moor, Egremont and HMP Haverigg.
Councillor Roger Bingham, cabinet member responsible for Culture and Communities, said: "I'm delighted that cabinet has awarded £10,000 in emergency funding for the Copeland Citizens' Advice Bureau.
"It will give the organisation breathing space to restructure itself to put it on a secure financial footing for the future and continue providing essential services for the people of Copeland."
