30/7/2007 - Copeland youngsters to benefit from county council cash

Youngsters in Copeland have been awarded £6,000 by the county council's local committee for Copeland.

At a meeting today (30 July), councillors approved grants to Beckermet Nursery, Frizington Library and the Cleator Moore based Phoenix Youth Project.

- Beckermet Nursery has provided childcare services to local families for 30 years. A grant of £5,000 has been earmarked to help fund the Nursery's plans to relocate from their current home in the Beckermet Reading Rooms to a new building next to the village school.

- Frizington Children's Centre provides nursery education, day-care for children from birth to five years old, parenting courses, story and toy sacks. A grant of £1,000 will be used to extend the Centre's toy sack service to more local families.

Councillor Ronnie Calvin, Chairman of the Copeland Local Area Committee, said: "Copeland Local Committee is committed to providing young people with the best possible start in life. These grants will help deliver a wide range of activities for youngsters in Copeland."
