18/6/2007 - Warm welcome for children and families at Kendal fire station

Instructions on how to make a 999 call, children's exercise sessions and free fruit smoothies, will all be on offer at Kendal fire station on Saturday (23 June) when firefighters hold a special 'Child Safety Information Day' at the Busher Walk site.

The event, which runs from 10:00am to 1:00pm, will give children and families the chance to look around, and learn more about fire and accident prevention.

Helping firefighters spread the child safety message at the free event will be members of the Coastguard, School Nurses and officers from Kendal police.

A team from the town's Evans cycle shop will also be on hand to give important advice on the benefits of safe cycling.

Children will also be given the chance to look round a fire engine and take part in exercise sessions organised by Team Theme.

Youngsters are encouraged to come along on the day to get useful advice on staying safe, enjoy a free healthy fruit smoothie and take away a selection of goodie bags.

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service Community Safety Coordinator, Justine Liddell said: "The event is free and a great opportunity for young people to come along and pick up some potentially life-saving safety information."
