Carlisle firefighters are taking part in a special event at Carlisle Racecourse this Sunday (24 June) aimed at helping people to stay safe on the roads and reducing casualties.
Now in its second year, the Roadsafe event organised by Cumbria Constabulary is open to the whole family and uses a variety of different attractions and demonstrations to get across important road safety messages.
This year, firefighters from Carlisle will be delivering a hard-hitting road awareness training session at 1:30pm before teaming up with television's very own Hairy Bikers to answer questions about road safety from the audience.
Later in the day, visitors to the event will be able to watch firefighters cut open a damaged vehicle to demonstrate the devastating consequences of unsafe driving. Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service's community risk manager, Craig Drinkald said:
"This is a terrific opportunity for people to get some potentially life-saving advice while enjoying a fun-packed day.
"On average, Cumbrian firefighters rescue ten times as many people from road crashes as they do from property fires. Reducing accidents on the county's roads means educating more people about the devastating consequences of neglecting driver safety- something which this event will enable us to do."
Roadsafe takes place at Carlisle Racecourse on Sunday 24th June from 10:00am.
