23/3/2007 - Free fun on two wheels this Easter

Young people are being offered free cycle training this Easter as part of the county council's Better Ways to School initiative.

There are opportunities for the young people to learn how to ride their bike safely, to train and take their cycling proficiency test, and to find out about the ups and down of real mountain biking.

The Better Ways to School initiative aims to reduce unnecessary car journeys and improve safety along routes to and from school, with the benefits of less congestion, less pollution, better standards of health and fitness, and significant improvement in safety.

There are three different courses, all being run at Kirkby Stephen Grammar School:

Cycle training for years 4-6 (two 2-day courses) Monday 2 - Tuesday 3 April and Wednesday 11 - Thursday 12 April 9.30am - 12pm

Two highly qualified instructors from Penrith based Cyclewise will teach you how to ride your bike more safely with lots of fun and games along the way.

Cycling proficiency for years 5-6 (two 4-day courses) Monday 2 April - Thursday 5 April and Tuesday 10 April - Friday 13 April 9.45am - 12.15pm.

During the week Cumbria's road safety officers will train you ready for your cycling proficiency test on the final day.

The North Face Challenge for years 7-10 (two 4-day courses) Monday 2 April - Thursday 5 April and Tuesday 10 April - Friday 13 April 9.30am - 4pm.

Learn all the skills you need to know with Cyclewise before heading off to Grizedale Forest on the last day to compete in the North Face Challenge.

To sign up for one of the courses, call (01228) 673061
