4/5/2007 - County council help for redundancy-hit Copeland workers

A Cleator Moor enterprise centre is to receive a cash boost from county councillors in Copeland to help staff cope with an increase in demand for redundancy counseling and other advice following the unexpected closure of local building company.

Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Copeland today agreed to give the Phoenix Enterprise Centre £2,000 to help provide support to 58 workers made redundant from the Cleator Moor based CMB Properties Ltd, which went into liquidation earlier this year.

Councillor Ronnie Calvin, Chairman of Copeland Local Committee, said: "This is very worrying time for workers and their families.

"Cleator Moor's Phoenix Enterprise Centre has a proven record of helping people get back in to work and this money will be used to help the centre offer former CMB employees valuable support and advice as they try to get back on their feet."
