15/5/2007 - National recognition for Cumbrian youth club

A Carlisle youth club created by young people with the help of Cumbria County Council, Stanwix Neighbourhood Forum and Carlisle Connexions is to receive national recognition tomorrow.

The effort of those involved in the creation of Stanwix Youth Club is to be praised at a special House of Commons event organised by regeneration experts RENEW Northwest.

Attending tomorrow's event will be Stanwix Youth Club member Rebecca Farrell, county councillor Elizabeth Mallinson and Irene Ruddick from Carlisle Connexions. The club was set up by Carlisle teenagers four years ago.

Commenting ahead of the visit, councillor Mallinson said: "I am really pleased that all the hard work of young people in Stanwix is being recognised in this way.

"It demonstrates the importance of giving young people a full and active role in the development of youth services."

Established by the Northwest Regional Development Agency at the request of government, RENEW Northwest exists to develop leadership skills amongst the region's regeneration professionals.
