Former county council chairman Allan Caine has today (Monday 21 May) presented cheques totalling more than £4,850 to the Alzheimer's Society and the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
The presentation, which took place in the Chairman’s Room at The Courts in Carlisle, saw councillor Caine handing over the donations to Margaret Irving from the Alzheimer's Society and Janet Hume from the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
The money, which was divided equally between the two charities, is made up of donations raised at a host of fund-raising events held by the former Chairman and council staff over the last twelve months.
The Alzheimer's Society and Great North Air Ambulance Service have been two of councillor Caine’s favoured charities for a number of years. He said: “I’m delighted to crown a wonderful year as Chairman by handing over this sizeable sum to two very deserving causes.”
