Road safety charity BRAKE is running a National Road Safety Week from November 5th to November 11.
A series of raod safety events are beign held around Cumbria as part of the week.
Safer Roads for Cumbria and their CRASH (Casualty Reduction and Safer Highways) Groups treat every week in Cumbria as a road safety week as they strive to reduce the numbers of people Killed and Seriously injured on our roads. However the BRAKE national road safety week gives added focus to the activities that continue throughout every week of the year.
BRAKE Road Safety Week starts on Monday, November 5th, and this year focuses on the safety of children on foot and bicycle, the following events are taking place in Cumbria:
West Cumbria
Monday 5th Victoria Infants School, Workington (pedestrian training)
Tuesday 6th Seascale Primary School (pedestrian training)
Thursday 8th St Mary’s School, Kells, Whitehaven, (pedestrian training)
Friday 9th Beckstone Nursery, Harrington (Green Cross Code work, games)

North Cumbria
Mon 5th, Tues 6th University of Cumbria Newton Rigg,
300 students will be participating in safe driving sessions where they will receive Road Awareness Training from the Fire and Rescue Service, testimonies from Police Family liaison officers and those who have lost loved ones as a result of road traffic collisions.
They will also receive practical advice on vehicle maintenance

Friday 9th Burton Morewood School, nr Carnforth (presentation of Cycling proficiency badges, certificates and sponsored tabards by the local county councillor)

The Safer Roads for Cumbria partnership was set up as a direct result of a Government request to improve road safety through the reduction of deaths and serious injuries on roads within the county.
The Safer Roads for Cumbria partnership involves Cumbria County Council, The Chamber of Commerce, Cumbria Constabulary, The Highways Agency, Capita (Road Safety), the Primary Care Trusts, the Freight Transport Association and Cumbria Safety Cameras.
