Firefighters will swap helmets for mortarboards tomorrow (7 November) when they become the first in Cumbria to graduate from a ground-breaking management training scheme.
In 2005, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service embarked on an innovative partnership with Tyne Metropolitan College to provide senior firefighters and back office managers with nationally recognised vocational qualifications in management.
For one firefighter, the scheme has helped secure a scholarship from The Times newspaper to the prestigious Henley Management College. Cockermouth based group manager Mike Smith is the first Fire and Rescue Service employee to attend Henley.
Kendal fire station hosts tomorrow’s graduation ceremony where at 2:30pm, the county’s Deputy Chief Fire Officer John Moorcroft will present NVQ level 4 certificates to the following personnel:
