The way forward for mental health services in Cumbria is being debated at a major conference taking place in the county on Friday (16 November).
The Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith will host the Pathways to Recovery event, which includes workshops and presentations on the treatment of mental illness.
Recent research by the Mental Health Foundation found that nearly 70 per cent of people in the North West of England know at least two friends who have experienced a mental health problem.
Cumbria County Council has arranged the day-long summit in partnership with the University of Cumbria, Cumbria Primary Care Trust, Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and voluntary sector organisations.
The event will promote the importance of employment, individualised budgets, housing and social networks in helping people with mental health problems to recover.
Dozens of service users, carers and organisations involved in delivering mental health services throughout Cumbria are expected to attend.
Councillor Oliver Pearson, cabinet member responsible for Adult Social Care and Health at Cumbria County Council, said: "There is still a lot of work that needs to be done to tackle the stigma which surrounds mental health.
"This conference is an important chance to tackle some of the stereotypes around mental health and discuss some of the different services that are now available to help people recover."
