Between now and the end of 2007, Cumbria County Council's libraries are asking borrowers to make their intentions known and vote for the contemporary romantic fiction book they are most passionate about.
Earlier this year, the county council asked library goers to nominate their favourite contemporary romantic fiction title as part of special regional promotion, called Pure Passion. From the regional recommendations a list of 20 top loved-up modern reads has been drawn up.
In the run up to New Year, people are being given the chance to read and vote for their favourite from the list of love stories which ranges from traditional romance to the fantastic and supernatural.
Readers can find details of the books and vote on-line at www.time-to-read.co.uk or by picking up a ballot paper from their local library. The winning book will be unveiled at an awards ceremony in February 2008.
People who vote will be automatically entered into a prize draw with the chance to win a selection of romantic reads and an invitation to the awards.
Librarians want people to discover that reading modern romance can be absorbing, surprising and relaxing.
Councillor Gary Strong, cabinet member responsible for Cumbria's Library Service, said: "Library goers have helped draw up a great shortlist of contemporary romantic reads. Now we are asking them to pull back cupid's arrow and take aim at their favourite book."
