The closing date for parents to apply for a secondary school place for their child is now just two days away - Friday 19 October.
Children transfer to secondary school in the September following their eleventh birthday.
This means that children born between 1 September 1996 and 31 August 1997 are due to transfer to secondary school in September 2008.
As well as filling in an admissions application form and returning it to their child's current school, parents can also apply online via Cumbria County Council's website.
The website contains information about schools in the six different regions of the county - Allerdale, Barrow, Carlisle, Copeland, Eden and South Lakes - so parents can quickly get to the area they are interested in.
The website also features important information parents and carers need to know before they fill in their admissions form, such as how places are allocated and advice about school transport policy.
An information pack, called 'Transfer to secondary school in Cumbria', is also available from local primary schools and local Children's Services offices.
If parents have any queries or need more advice before they fill in the application form either online or to take to their child's school, then they can contact the Choice Advice Service on 01229 894559.
Marie Bagnall is the county council's admissions manager. She said:
"This Friday's closing date really is important.
"Every year some parents lose out by making a late application for a school where they would have had high priority, if only they had got their form in on time.
" I would also really recommend that parents put down a second and third preference on their form."
Applications can be made up to MIDNIGHT on FRIDAY 19 OCTOBER 2007.
Letters to parents and carers, notifying them of the outcome of their application, will be posted out on Monday 3 March 2008.
