17/10/2007 - I'm a Councillor whittled down to three as Olwyn Luckley lucks out

A second councillor has been evicted from the children's online democracy event 'I'm a Councillor, Get me out of Here!' - and Cllr Olwyn Luckley, Lib Dem member for Castle, is now no longer in the competition after winning just 9% of the vote.

Today's eviction follows yesterday's loss of last year's winner, Cllr John Murphy.

There are now just three remaining councillors in the competition. Another will be evicted tomorrow and then the winner will be crowned 'I'm a Councillor Youth Champion' on Friday:

- Cllr Keith Little (Labour, Maryport East)
- Cllr Philip Chappelhow (Conservative, Penrith North)
- Cllr Elizabeth Barraclough (Lib Dem, Keswick and Derwent)

During the last week Olwyn has been quizzed by school children around the county on a series of issues and she said her top priority  was aiming to improve the environment. Speaking after her eviction, she said:
"I've enjoyed the experience and am grateful for all the questions that were put to me. This event has helped me think about what I do as a councillor and how I do it. It was a great opportunity to hear comments, concerns and issues raised by the voters of tomorrow."

The questionning will continue for three remaining councillors on the website www.bigvote.org.uk. To view the Q&As so far, click on 'Guest Access' and then select Cumbria from the drop-down menu at the top.
