A £700,000 scheme to improve one of Barrow's central shopping streets will be officially opened on Friday, October 19.
The scheme has transformed Lower Dalton Road with brand new high quality street surface, new lighting, street furniture and tree planting between Abbey Road and Buccleuch Street as well as a pedestrian zone between High Street and Abbey Road.
Alan Nicholson, chairman of the county council's Barrow Local Committee, will be joined at the opening by Barrow MP and Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, John Hutton.
The opening event will take place on Lower Dalton Road itself from 1.45pm on Friday, October 19.
Mr Nicholson said: "This is a good example of what can be achieved when we all work together. Thanks to this work, Barrow town centre is a more attractive place to shop in and to visit."
Local people and businesses were extensively consulted and the final design of the scheme was influenced by their input.
Cumbria County Council and Barrow Borough Council worked together with North West Development Agency on the scheme which is part of the Barrow Town Centre Urban Design Framework.
