22/10/2007 - Cumbria up for national care award

Cumbria has won a place among the best and brightest social care training organisations in England at a gala awards ceremony to be held in London later this week.

On Thursday (25 October) Care Sector Alliance Cumbria will join the country's most innovative training providers and workforce development partnerships at the Skills for Care Accolades presentation evening at London's Landmark Hotel where they will learn whether they have won one of this year's national awards.

Formed in 2004 by Cumbria County Council and other strategic agencies, Care Sector Alliance Cumbria promotes and supports workforce development among the county's social care employees.

The organisation carries out a variety of activities designed to improve the skills and knowledge of social care employers and support recruitment and retention within the sector. As well as holding an annual themed conference and providing a range of training resources, this year Care Sector Alliance Cumbria supported the county council's first recruitment fair specifically for social care workers.

Speaking ahead of this Thursday's awards, Care Sector Alliance Cumbria's workforce development officer Lesley Gill, said: "This is a terrific feather in the cap for Cumbria's social care industry.

"Social care is a burgeoning part of the county's economy and making sure those working within it are able to constantly develop and improve is extremely important."
