Jubilee Bridge in Barrow will be up late on Wednesday night to allow essential maintenance work.
Work is being carried out at night to avoid disruption when engineers raise the bridge between 00:15am and 06.00 am on the morning of Thursday, October 25th.
The bridge must be raised in order to carry out works fitting washer plates to the bridge deck.
However, measures are in place to lower the bridge in the event of an emergency. The bridge will also be lowered periodically to allow night time drivers and pedestrians to cross between Barrow and Walney, but there could be delays of up to half an hour.
The works has been timed around the time of the last bus from Walney to Barrow and around shifts for staff at BAE Systems.
