Work to resurface the North Road section of the A590 in Barrow began yesterday (22 October).
The scheme lasting up to seven days will see the resurfacing of a section of A590 North Road between Ironworks Road and Jubilee Bridge and resurfacing of the Tesco second access road.
The original surfacing was laid in November 2006, but is being replaced due to material failure caused by a manufacturing problem. The work is being carried out by Cumbria Highways, at the expense of the material supplier while it is under guarantee.
Work is being carried out between 8am and 4pm each day. Temporary traffic signals are in operation and some delays are inevitable. Drivers are being advised to find alternative routes where possible.
Access to the Tesco, The Dock Museum and BAE Systems and other businesses and properties is being maintained at all times.
