Cockermouth fire station will be swaying to the beat of a local youth rock band this Saturday (8 September) when firefighters hold a special family open day at the Station Road site.
The event, which runs from 11:00am to 4:00pm, will include music from Cockermouth based metal band Entropy, simulated house fires and road traffic collision demonstrations, and a chance to look around some of the station's state-of-the art fire engines and rescue vehicles.
For younger visitors, the Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service mascot Welephant will be making an appearance and budding junior firefighters will be able to test their water squirting skills on a special target range.
The event, which is free and open to everyone, is being used by the town's firefighters to help get across some important fire and accident prevention messages to young people of all ages.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service Group Manager Dave Edgar said: "There is some cracking entertainment planned and I hope as many families as possible take some time out to visit the station and pick up some potentially life-saving advice."
