From today, Cumbria Trading Standards officers will be supervising enhanced biosecurity measures at livestock markets across the county.
The checks are part of the further relaxation in animal movement restrictions first introduced on 3 August following a confirmed case of foot and mouth disease in Surrey.
From midnight last night, farmers have been able to transport cattle, sheep and pigs to those livestock auctions that are operating enhanced disease control measures for the first time since restrictions were introduced.
Trading Standards Officers will be visiting livestock markets in the county to help oversee the tighter biosecurity controls .
