People in Eden are being warned not miss out on potentially life saving free electric blanket checks.
On Wednesday 19 September, Trading Standards Officers will be joining offering free checks at Penrith's Methodist Church Hall.
Of the 1,026 blankets tested by Cumbria Trading Standards in checks around the county last year 483 (47 per cent) failed. Faulty electric blankets cause around 5,000 fires in UK homes each year.
The safety tests are on an appointments only basis, and with limited places available people are advised to book their slot as soon as possible by ringing Cumbria Trading Standards on 01228-607447.
