24/9/2007 - Green-fingered Carlisle kids score prizes

Dozens of green-fingered Carlisle kids are having their reading achievements in a special nature themed summer reading challenge recognised at Carlisle United's Brunton Park ground this week.

Photographers are invited to the club's Foxy Suite to see children who successfully completed their mission receive special certificates from some of the club's star players.

Organised by Cumbria County Council's Library Service, the Big Wild Read challenged junior library goers to read six books over the summer holidays, all based around the theme of nature and the environment.

Young people who completed the challenge are set to receive certificates and book tokens at six separate ceremonies at Brunton Park this week. Ceremonies take place on:

Wednesday 26 September - 4:45pm, 5:45pm and 6:45pm Thursday 27 September - 4:45pm, 5:45pm and 6:45pm

Children who accomplished their mission were also entered into a special competition with the chance to win a new bike and at the final ceremony on Thursday (6:45pm on 27 September) lucky winner James Routlege, aged nine, from Inglewood School will receive his new set of wheels.
