Cumbria County Council’s cabinet has agreed grants of £218,000 for the coming year to support a range of arts and cultural projects across the county.
The money, which is made up from £171,100 in county council funding and £41,900 from Arts Council England, will help to generate more than £7million of arts and cultural projects in Cumbria this year.
The funding will provide much needed support for the county’s arts events and organisations, ranging from high-profile venues such as Kendal’s Brewery Arts Centre to smaller-scale programmes like the Barracudas street carnival initiative in Barrow.
Councillor Gary Strong, cabinet member responsible for cultural services, said: "The county council recognises the important role culture plays in Cumbrian life.
"This year’s cultural grant allocation will help arts organisations to plan for the future while making sure a wide range of cultural activities are accessible to people across the county".
"The support provided by these grants will help to create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to take part in a diverse range of high quality creative activity."
