Some of the county’s most loyal civil servants will be recognised tomorrow in Long Service Awards for Cumbria County Council.
The event will take place on Thursday December 18 at Tullie House Museum, Carlisle. There will be a photo and broadcast media opportunity at 11.45pm.
In order to qualify for a Long Service Award, people must have worked for Cumbria County Council for 35 years. Earlier this month, similar awards were held for 21 people in the county council’s Children's Services department. Now it is the time for all other areas of the council to be recognised.
The 11 winners this year include a crew manager at Appleby fire station, three people with a combined service of 105 years in the county's libraries, and two people who've worked at the corporate finance team.
The winners will be presented the award by the county council's Chairman Tom Clare. He said: "It is fitting to recognise the loyalty and years of service these people have shown to the council. They started working for the council in 1973 - which was the year before Cumbria County Council was actually formed. It is a pleasure and a privilege to pay tribute to the years of hard work they have put in."
Each recipient will be presented with a gift to the value of £350 - which represents £10 for every year's service.
