14/1/2008 - Awards show home is where the heart is

Cumbria County Council has recognised agencies and members of the public who have gone the extra mile to help people who need support to live in a place of their own.

People and organisations who have helped young people leaving care and other vulnerable groups to take their first hesitant steps into a tenancy, are just some of those who received recognition at the 'Celebrating Independence Awards' which took place last Friday (11 January) at Carlisle Racecourse.

The day-long event, which was opened by Cumbria County Council Leader Tim Stoddard, also highlighted the work of organisations that support older people, homeless people and people with disabilities
