28/1/2008 - Cumbria puts out the call for arty volunteers

Get Involved poster

A new campaign calling for volunteers to get involved with local arts organisations is being launched next month (February 2008).

Cumbria County Council is working in partnership with the Arts Council North West , Eden Arts and Cumbria CVS Learning Links to promote and support the work that local Cumbrian voluntary arts groups provide for their communities.

The focus of the campaign is that arts are accessible, fun and deliver a vital service in enhancing our lifestyles and will be shown through posters and an information directory.

A range of voluntary and amateur arts organisations in the county are short of committed volunteers to help out in areas such as visual arts exhibitions, music and film festivals, choirs, bands and youth theatres.

Cllr Gary Strong, Cumbria County Council's Cabinet member responsible for culture, said:

"There's a thriving arts scene in Cumbria, but it needs people behind the scenes to drive it. Getting involved in arts organisations is a great way to broaden your mind, meet new people and keep on top of all the latest developments in the Cumbrian arts scene."
