Barrow library’s brand-new young people’s area will be unveiled on Friday (4 July).
Photographers are invited to the library on Ramsden Square at 1:00pm where some of the town’s junior readers will be putting the new sea-themed young people’s area through its paces.
Joining them will be councillor Gary Strong, cabinet member for community development and safety at Cumbria County Council, and Barrow MP John Hutton.
Students and lectures from Furness colleague have helped design and build the boat which forms the centrepiece of the new junior readers’ area. Pictures of fish, submarines and an octopus have been produced by The Royal Navy.
The opening of the new children's area is the latest in a series of activities arranged by Cumbria County Council to mark the National Year of Reading - a national campaign designed to inspire everyone to read more.
The refurbishment reflects the county council's commitment to attract young people of all ages to use Cumbria's library services and in doing so, hopefully encourage a life-long love of reading.
Financial support for the project has been provided by Leck Construction Ltd, Kimberly Clark, Furness Building Society and Centrica Energy's Roosecote power station.
