19/6/2008 - Barrow businesses open as usual while Hindpool Road is resurfaced

This Friday, June 20th, will see the start of carriageway resurfacing along a 300m section of Hindpool Road between Abbey Road and Market Street in Barrow.

Businesses in the area will be open as usual while the work scheme is completed.

Resurfacing involves using a powerful specialist vehicle to remove the road surface by 'planing' it off to a depth of several centimetres - getting below the running layer and into the next layer of the road structure called the binder course A new binder course and new surface layer is then applied to restore the structure and grip of the road.

The resurfacing work on Hindpool Road is expected to take seven days. The scheme also includes the laying of new pavements, road markings, traffic signals and street furniture.

The work is being done as part of the £1.3million Hindpool scheme which includes the creation of an access road to the new B & Q and JJB Sports development.

The resurfacing work will be done using existing temporary lights in use on the Hindpool works, but waiting times at the lights will be slightly longer during resurfacing and some disruption is inevitable.

Cumbria County Council apologises for any inconvenience.
