23/6/2008 - Warm welcome for families at Kendal Fire Station

Instructions on how to make a 999 call and perform first-aid will be just some of the activities open to families at Kendal fire station on Saturday (28 June) when firefighters hold a special Child Safety Information Day.

The event, which runs from 10:00am to 1:00pm, is being held as part of National Child Safety Week. The theme of the week this year is 'Make a change. Make a difference'.

The idea behind the theme is that anyone can make a small change to help prevent an accident, such as remembering to check smoke detectors every week, or a child remembering to cross the road safely. Just a small change could make a difference.

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service Community Safety Coordinator, Justine Liddell said: "The event is free and a great opportunity for young people to come along and pick up some potentially life-saving safety information."

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service provides a home safety visit service where people can get free smoke detectors and advice on how to make reduce their fire risk. The service is free and can be arranged by calling 0800-358-4777.
