24/3/2008 - Middle-Earth in the middle of Whitehaven

Readers of all ages are invited to ‘Hobbit’ down to Whitehaven Library on Saturday (29 March) for a day of Tolkien-inspired fun.

Cumbria County Council has organised a host of magical activities at the town’s library, including a banner-making session for fledgling Frodo’s and quizzes for grown-up Gandalf’s.

Writing workshops have also been laid on and later in the day, the winners of a special junior story-writing competition will be announced.

The competition, which has been organised by the Tolkien Society, asked young Middle-Earthers in the Whitehaven area to write about ‘My Life as a Young Hobbit’ or 'A Rough Guide to Talking to Dragons’ with prizes for the winners and certificates for runners-up.

All the activities are free with more information available from Whitehaven Library on 01946-852900.
