31/3/2008 - Carlisle young firefighters brush up on DIY for station facelift

A group of young people from Newman School and NCTC who have recently passed out of the Carlisle Young Firefighter scheme will be returning to Carlisle's Warwick St fire station on Thursday (April 3) for a spot of decorating.

The young firefighters have volunteered to clean up and paint the room used to store young firefighters' uniform and equipment. Paint, materials and storage units for the work have been supplied by B&Q Carlisle as part of their community grants scheme.

The DIY day will begin at 9.30am and is expected to end at 5pm. Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service will be happy to accommodate any media photographers or journalists wishing to cover the event.

Carlisle and Eden watch manager for community risk Craig Drinkald said: "It's fantastic that these young people have put themselves forward to give something back to the organisations that help them. It's the proof in the pudding of the positive relationships which are formed between young people and the fire service through the young firefighters scheme."
