20/11/2008 - Kosovan Government Ministers visit Cumbria

A delegation from the Kosovan education ministry has been visiting Cumbria to learn more about the culture and diversity of the county and how education can be delivered in the best way in a sparsely populated area.

The group attended the full Cumbria County Council meeting in Kendal.

They were presented with a Lakeland fells watercolour to mark the occasion.

The delegation, from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, has been discussing a new way of  organising school budgets as part of a three-year scheme funded by the World Bank.

Cllr Tom Clare, Chairman of Cumbria County Council, said:
"It was a great pleasure to meet our new friends from Kosovo and to learn a little bit more about the education system in their country. We have a lot to be proud about in Cumbria in terms of the high standard of our schools and it is always good to see how others can learn from us and we can learn from them too."

Tomorrow (November 21) the group will visit Kirkby Lonsdale school before departing for Kosovo on Friday afternoon.
