24/10/2008 - Together we can.....events for Vickerstown

Residents in Vickerstown will be given the power to change their community for the better from Monday (27 October) as part of a radical new scheme.

'Together We Can' is an action plan that will enable people to engage with public bodies and influence the decisions that affect their communities. Earlier this week a team of canvassers visited residents in Vickerstown to ask them what they thought about the area and how they can get involved in local decision making.

The organisations involved in Together We Can want local people to play a successful part in guiding, directing and supporting the distribution of resources and delivery of services in their local communities.

From getting chewing gum off the pavements to antisocial behaviour, the Street Safe team in Barrow, which is made up of many local agencies and the community and voluntary sector will be finding out what people want to fix in Vickerstown.

Local service providers including Cumbria County Council and Barrow Borough Council, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, NHS Cumbria, Cumbria Constabulary and other community and voluntary organisations will work together with people in Vickerstown, to target areas of the community that they want to change.

Together We Can starts on Monday and will run for one week. It is an opportunity for all local service providers to make connections with residents in Vickerstown.

There are events going on throughout the project to show how the different services work together to make a change in the area.
