Following on from the success of a Manga drawing workshop at Barrow library last year, another comic strip masterclass will be held this half term.
The library is offering young people an opportunity to learn how to design their very own Manga comic characters on February 18th at 1.30 - 3.30pm. The session will be held by Manga artist Kate 'Mongoose' Holden.
Manga is the Japanese word for comics, but recently it has become a term that covers a particular artistic and storytelling style such as the hugely popular adventures of Pokemon.
Young people aged between 13 and 21 are invited to come along to Barrow library to learn how to design and introduce characters, and produce their very own dynamic, Japanese comic books.
Whilst each artist has their own style, there are a few things that give Manga a distinctive look. Drawings are typically done in pen and ink, most characters have very large, almond-shaped eyes and other out of proportion body parts. In all but the most serious stories, characters also show their emotions quite clearly - for example, a sweat drop on the forehead means a character is worried!
Places are expected to be limited and anyone wishing to participate should ask at the library for details.
