18/2/2009 - A592 reopens for daytime traffic

One of the Lake District's most scenic roads is now reopen during the day after daytime resurfacing work has been completed.

Resurfacing work on the A592 between Caudale Bridge and Horseman Bridge has finished and road closure signs have been removed. The road is now open to traffic, but traffic control measures are in place for verge and road marking works.

The rest of the A592 resurfacing work from Martinhowe Wood to Glencoyne Bridge at the southern end of Ullswater will be completed at night (7pm-7am) to minimise disruption to local businesses.

Weather permitting, preparatory works e.g. drainage, localised reconstruction, walling and kerbing works will begin for the Martinhowe Wood to Glencoyne Bridge section on Monday February 23 and last until March 7. Temporary traffic lights will keep the road open during the day.

On March 9th, the night-time closures will begin and are scheduled to last until March 14th. Road Markings and verge works are then scheduled for March 16 to March 21st. These will take place during the day, under temporary traffic lights or stop/go boards as appropriate.
