An improved timetable is being launched on a west Cumbrian bus service next week.
From Monday (July 20) the Frizington to Cockermouth service (Service 217) will see a number of changes following discussions between local people, the operator Rosie’s Travel and Cumbria County Council, which provides financial support to the service.
Changes on the route that runs via Ennerdale Bridge and Dean include a later service at 5pm from Cockermouth on Thursdays to allow people to connect with buses from Carlisle, Workington, Keswick and Penrith.
And extra journeys will be provided from Rowrah to Frizington at 8.21am and Frizington to Rowrah at 2.45pm (Monday to Friday) and 5.50pm (Thursdays only).
The poorly used Saturday afternoon Cockermouth to Frizington bus is going to be withdrawn, with the last trip on a Saturday becoming the 11.55am from Cockermouth, while better connections will be offered with buses to and from Whitehaven and Cleator Moor at Frizington.
Discussions with local bus users highlighted a need for the service to provide more appropriate times for shopping and appointments in Cockermouth, so the new timetable has been designed to achieve this aim.
