24/6/2009 - Kendal library invites people to come and take a nose at Parker creator

A best-selling Irish crime writer will be visiting Kendal library next month to showcase his latest work and unveil the secrets behind his anti-hero literary creation, former policeman Charlie Parker who is hunting the killer of his wife and daughter.

John Connolly, whose award-winning debut novel Every Dead Thing went straight onto the Sunday Times bestseller list, will be appearing at Kendal Library on Saturday 18th July at 7pm as part of Cumbria Library Service's Mid-Summer Murders season.

The author will be promoting his tenth and latest novel, The Lovers, which will be published in the UK next month. The new book continues Connolly's trademark of macabre crime writing with a supernatural twist.

In the past he has described his personal appearances as an opportunity to see his own work in "new and different ways":

"I look upon them as a chance to explain what I do, which is why I rarely read for long, preferring to talk instead, and to meet readers, whether they've read my books or not," he says.

Interest has already been high for the event, with only around 20 out of the 70 tickets remaining. Tickets, which cost £3 including free refreshments, are available from the library on 01539 713520.

Other well-known crime authors who will be making an appearance at Kendal library for the Mid-Summer Murder season include Martin Edwards, who will be appearing at 2pm on Friday 26th June, and Diane Janes, who is appearing at 7pm on Thursday 25th June.
