13/5/2009 - Road closure for town revamp

Workington’s Murray Road will be closed on Sunday (May 17) as part of a major revamp of the town.

The route is set to be shut to all traffic from 7am until late afternoon/early evening between Oxford Street and Finkle Street.

For the duration of the closure Finkle Street will have a temporary two-way traffic order between Speedwell Lane and Vulcans Lane to allow access to Brow Top and Warwick Place.

Residents are being asked to remove their vehicles from both Murray Road and Finkle Street before the closure is implemented.

Speed tables - where the surface of the road is raised to slow down traffic and provide crossing points for pedestrians - are to be constructed on Murray Road adjacent to the bus station and at its junction with Upton Street.

Further closures will be needed on several Sundays between now and the end of June so the resurfacing, which is part of the Workington Streetscapes scheme, can be completed.
