15/5/2009 - Beach boys and girls walk on by (Do they know the way to Morecambe Bay ?)

With a spring in their step and a song in their hearts, almost two hundred primary school children will be taking to Morecambe Bay Sands on 20th May.

Key stage 2 pupils and staff from the Cartmel Peninsula schools will be led by Cedric Robinson, official guide to the Sands.

The schools include Lindale, Flookburgh, Grange, Leven Valley and Cartmel.

The walk is intended to give the children a new experience of their local area and provide inspiration for songs that are being written for the local Sing Up project.

Folk singer Les Ord is working with the schools to write songs for a celebration with four hundred children in Cartmel Priory on July 6th.

Sarah Wall of the Cumbria Sing Up project will also be joining the walk as part of the Songlines celebration.

The headteachers requested the walk be arranged as part of the project after the schools were awarded a national Sing Up grant to promote singing in primary schools in the area.
