5/11/2009 - Council helps schools to beat the credit crunch

Schools from across Cumbria will gather at an event next week to discover new and innovative ways to save money and make the most of education budgets.

The Resource Management and Meet the Supplier event will be held at Carlisle Race Course on Thursday 12 November.

The aim of the event is for schools and other education providers to find out how they can become better managers of resources in their organisation.

Organised by Cumbria County Council Strategic and Commercial Procurement team with support from the DCSF Educational Procurement Centre, the event aims to show schools how they can improve the management of their finances and still achieve best value.

At the event representatives will have an opportunity to attend various workshops and seminars focusing on resource procurement and financial management .

They will also be able to hear an update on next year's budget settlement.

More than sixty traders will also be at the event exhibiting a range of supplies including business units from the county council and Capita.

Alan Ratcliffe, Head of Strategic and Commercial procurement. Cumbria County Council, said:

"This is the seventh year that the county council has run the event. In recent years the Government has increased the financial and procurement responsibilities of headteachers and governors and with this in mind, it is now more important than ever that we support schools and help them provide the best financial and procurment management possible.

"The last six years have proved very successful and I am sure that this year will be no exception."
