Cumbria Police are disappointed to confirm that there has been an individual incident where items have been stolen from two vehicles  during the Cumbria floods.

While local communities pulled together to support each other, a small criminal element took advantage of two vehicles parked on Kirkstone Pass on the A592 after their owners were forced to abandon them due to flooding.

A BMW and an Audi had wheels, lights and other parts stolen overnight between Friday and Saturday.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "We find it hard to believe that anyone would take advantage of people's property at a time like this when the communities of Cumbria have pulled together to cope with aftermath of these devastating floods. This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated by the police or the community and will be fully investigated when we have finished dealing with our search and rescue priorities."

If you witness a crime in action call 999. If you have information about the theft of parts from these vehicles, contact police on 0845 33 00 247 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
