Police issue bridge warning to Workington revellers

A spokesperson said:

"The situation with unsafe bridges in Workington has given rise to serious concern that members of the public may attempt to cross these bridges after a night out in Workington.

"The Old Railway Bridge, Derwent Rail Bridge, Calva Bridge and Navy's Bridge are all unsafe for either vehicles or foot passengers.

"Any attempts to cross these bridges puts the  lives of themselves - and others who may have to come to their aid -  at risk.

"Preparation to install the new Mabey & Johnson footbridge is ongoing  and the  foundations should be in place by this Sunday, 29 November. The bridge will then be assembled and put into place - it is anticipated that it will be open to the public by 5 December.

"Cumbria Police are appealing to members of the public not to make any attempt to cross these bridges and will be working with licensees in the town to remind customers of the importance of their safety."
