A two week drop-in session by Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and Cumbria Police will be running in the Westmorland Shopping Centre from next week to promote winter fire safety.
The session will run on weekdays from Tuesday 27 October to Friday 6 November with a stand in the upstairs area of the shopping centre.
The fire service will distribute information about toxic smoke - as seen in the current TV adverts - chimney fires, winter safety, firework and bonfire safety, as well as giving information about how people can benefit from free home fire safety visits. There will also be information about volunteering opportunities with Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.
Cumbria Police are participating as part of Not in my Neighbourhood week, aiming to increase awareness of what the police and other local agencies are doing to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.
On Friday 29 October a representative from the Stroke Association will be in attendance to give out information and advice and to carry out free blood pressure testing.
For further information about this event, or if you would like to arrange a free home fire safety visit from the fire service, please contact the Community Risk Team at Kendal on 01539 797628.
